
Ruling party’s Laura Fernández emerges as clear front-runner in Costa Rica election
With 31% of precincts tallied, ruling-party candidate Laura Fernández of the Sovereign People’s Party was leading with 53.01% of the vote, compared with 30.05% for social-democrat Álvaro Ramos, according to the first official update from the Tribunal Supremo de Elecciones. Turnout was reported at around 66% after a calm voting day marked by heavy public concern over crime and drug trafficking.
